Part it out, or rebuild it. This engine has lots of good parts. It came out of a 72 Pantera.
Here’s what I know about it:
It has 50% compression loss in cylinders 4 and 5. Something in 4 hits the spark plug and bends
the side electrode. At the time it blew,
there was coolant in the oil and coolant in the exhaust. The engine has been flushed with oil to protect the internals. The engine is currently drained
and bolted to the crate my replacement engine came in.
The good news: When working, it always runs right on 180 degrees
and pulls nicely. The engine was rebuilt
and reinstalled in the Pantera on 8-1-2004. PDF file of invoice from last rebuild.
This year, I added a Milodon high performance water pump and thermostat
(Hatted for Cleveland).
I’m throwing in the following (all in good working order):
- Billet Pantera 14” air filter cover – is marked up. See photos on web site.
- 14” air filter.
- Headers (provenance unknown)
- Hall Big Bore Exhaust
- Holley 650
- Starter
- Pertronix Ingnition and coil
- Clutch – worn with even hot spots
- Clutch Housing
- Flywheel
- Compcam Cam (in engine)
- Rockers, Manley Valves, everything in the block.
- Aviaid Oil Pan
- Compcam CAM
- Edelbrock Performer Manifold
- NO Alternator
This engine has lots of very good parts…it just needs someone that is interested in rebuilding it or parting it out.
The engine is in Petaluma, CA. Buyer responsible for picking up / shipping.
